All committee members are to be church members or
adherents. Each committee should have three elected members (elected by
the congregation), but are encouraged to add to their membership as
they deem appropriate, and may also form sub-committees.
Each committee will appoint a chair from their membership and a
representative for their committee to Church Council. The rep to Church
Council should be one of the three elected members but any member of
that committee may represent it and vote at Council when that
representation is in lieu of the elected representative.
Each committee has its own area of responsibility, but as part of the
larger body, will work, from time to time, with other committees. Fund
raising (or action), whether Property Committee rentals or
Congregational Life/CDY roast beef dinner interact with Finance
Committee, etc. etc.
Members to Finance Committee and Board of Trustees are elected at the
Annual Financial Meeting (usually the first Sunday in February). All
other committee members are elected at the Annual General Meeting
(usually the first Sunday in May).
CHRISTIAN OUTREACH
1. To promote, within
the congregation, support for the Mission and Service Fund and
inform
the congregation of their projects, etc.
2. To encourage and
co-ordinate special programs and appeals, e.g. Ten
Days for World
Development, Food Bank, etc.
3. To be aware of the
special needs of the wider community and suggest appropriate ways
to relate
to them
4. To suggest ways in
which the congregation and its resources, facilities, and/or personnel
may
better serve the needs of the community at large.

PROPERTY
l. To have oversight of the use of the care and
maintenance of the properties of the congregation,
including the Church building
2. To have oversight and
supervisory responsibility for the cleaning and caretaking
of the church and
the maintenance of the grounds
3. To have oversight of the use of the building or
property on a rental basis and set rental fees
and authorize use as seems appropriate

FINANCE
l. To have oversight of
the financial affairs of the congregation including:

to have oversight of
securing of contributions of funds and maintain necessary
records
•
to disburse money to
pay current expenses, salaries, pensions, etc.
in accordance with the
budget or as directed by Church Council
•
to present monthly a
statement of receipts and expenditures
•
to present to Annual
Financial Congregational Meeting, a detailed statement
of receipts and
expenditures, duly audited, and a statement of proposed
expenditures estimated
to be required for the next year
2. To prepare a budget for
the ensuing year (using estimates of all committees of their
budgetary
requirements) and present it to Council at its January meeting

CHRISTIAN DEVELOPMENT YOUTH
1. To have
responsibility for Children's worship
and all mid-week youth programs, including
choosing
curriculum, selection and
training of leaders and teachers and co-ordination of events
and programs
2. To have oversight of
Confirmation classes
3. To support Outreach
activities for children and youth
(i.e. P.D. DAY Adventures, Vacation Bible Camp)
The Christian Development Youth

CONGREGATIONAL LIFE/COMMUNICATIONS
1. To plan and arrange for the Annual Congregational
meetings
2. To evaluate and have oversight over special
congregational events and to initiate and plan events to
further social or educational purposes
within the congregation
3. To be responsible for and have oversight of the records
of the congregation including baptisms,
marriages and burials (done
routinely by office and checked by Presbytery)
4. To be responsible for maintaining, revising, updating
membership rolls
5. To encourage new member integration
6. Creation of a yearly calendar and its periodic update
7. Co-ordination and placement of information on the
church sign, the media, bulletin boards of the
church, the church newsletter and inserts in
other mailings and the DSUC website.

WORSHIP and SACRAMENTS
1. In co-operation with
the Minister(s) and the Director of Music, to share in general planning
and
to have
oversight of the congregational worship
2. To assist with
special worship services e.g. Easter, Youth services, etc. or
ecumenical
services
3. To arrange and
have oversight of the Celebration of the Sacrament of Communion, and
the
care
and
use of the Communion Vessels.
4. To have oversight of
the appearance of the Sanctuary and use of flowers, banners, etc.
5. To be responsible for
Pulpit Supply when needed.

VISTATION
The Visitation Committee shall undertake the implementation and
guidance of a congregational
visitation program along with methods of identifying where needs
develop within and without the congregation. This vital committee
will oversee the spiritual element of the congregation and will need to
enlist many of the members and adherents to fulfill its mandate.
It will have to work closely with the ministerial staff.

MINISTRY AND PERSONNEL
1. To provide a consultive and supportive agency for
church staff and for members and adherents of the
congregation
2. Regularly review responsibilities of all staff and make
appropriate recommendations
3. Conduct their work with a high level of confidentiality
